CHARACTER
NAME: Henry
CANON: Fire Emblem: Awakening
CANON POINT: Chapter 14, (just after unit acquisition)
AGE: 18 (not stated in canon, but he’s able to marry)
BACKGROUND: Can be found here!

PERSONALITY: First and foremost, Henry is macabre. Not only does he introduce himself as someone who has “a thing for killing”, but he makes terrible puns, jokes that are absolutely cringe-worthy, pokes fun and laughs at the most unsettling of times. Conversations with Henry are often riddled with off-color humor about death and dismemberment, as he speaks without filter, unconcerned with how he may be perceived by others.

Throughout canon he references tearing the limbs off of things, or wings off of insects, and gathering body parts for his “collection”, (such as toenails or a jar of preserved eyeballs). But while he conveys the appearance of taking joy in harming or even torturing others, frequently asking if there’s someone he needs to curse or kill, he’s not a villainous sort, and doesn’t actively attack or harm others without provocation or instruction to do so. Rather, Henry lacks a moral compass, and relies heavily on others to provide one for him and shape his worldview. Left to his own devices without guiding influence, he’s inherently selfish, even going so far as to turn on his own homeland of Plegia to aid the enemy in battle simply because he finds that to be the more entertaining option.

Initially, he does not appear to care about the welfare of others whatsoever, instead only focusing on what benefits him. Thankfully, Henry is extremely malleable and easily influenced by those in his immediate social circle. For example, if partnered in canon with someone patient and gentle, he takes on those qualities over time, to a degree. To a certain extent, he will take on the interests of the person he’s closest to as well, even if they don’t coincide -- or even conflict -- with his own pursuits.

But arguably, Henry’s greatest strength, (beyond his technical skills), is that he is obedient. When he bonds to someone, he bonds to them fiercely, and will heed their instructions faithfully and without question. He’s dutiful when it comes to orders, and does not stray from what he’s been told to do. This intensifies when he becomes romantically attached to another, at which point he can become profoundly yandere and protective, even threatening to kill whosoever crosses the one he likes without hesitation.

This is likely due to the underlying fact that, while he’ll only admit it when pushed to do so, (and never in concise verbiage), Henry is deeply and chronically lonely. Thanks to his background of being dismissed/discarded by his family, he has a whole basket of abandonment issues, and is shown in canon to be so desperate for companionship as to say things like “please don’t leave me” or “don’t abandon me like they did”. Despite this, (or perhaps because of it), he canonly states that all his best friends are crows, and that he feels closer to most animals more so than people.

Additionally, Henry is flippant, especially about life-or-death situations or consequences. Nothing is ever taken seriously, as he seems to live behind a façade of happiness. Henry even outwardly appears unconcerned about whether he himself lives or dies, speaking about his own peril with a cheerful, resounding ‘meh’. Without proper development, he remains largely disconnected from his emotions, and opts to simply slap a smile over most everything. He even has some pretty severe masochistic tendencies, for example known for using phrases like “hurts so nice” when wounded in combat, and speaking casually of his own injuries.

But at his core, he’s kind-hearted and does not sincerely seek to harm innocents, as shown in canon support conversations on multiple occasions. In one instance, he carries heavy items for a pregnant stranger while walking her home, (even though he comments that he doesn’t understand the point of pregnancy); and in another, he nurses an injured dog back to health.

As a whole, Henry is someone with the heart of, and potential to be, a good person -- you just may have to do a bit of digging and work to get there.
POWERS/ABILITIES: By default, Henry is a dark mage who is equipped at the start with fire magic, along with the ability to hex/curse most anything or anyone he desires in a plethora of ways. He can utilize a variety of curses or spells, (mostly harmful in nature, but sometimes benign), or rebound other curses. In canon he’s also shown to be able to do such menial things with his powers as fixing broken bowls with a spell produced out of nowhere, though they re-break the very next day. He can perform summons, and create spectral images or animals that appear real until touched. He also claims to have the ability to talk to all living things, including, (but not limited to), animals and plants. He cannot raise the dead or speak to the dead, or create new life with magic of any variety.
For purposes of the game, I’d like to limit the scope of his magic to an interpersonal level, (as in, affecting one or two targets at a time rather than a whole building, city, or world, etc).

INVENTORY: Henry carries a magic tome full of curses/hexes and other fun things he can use to make enemies miserable. (Or dead! Usually dead.) That will be his only possession he carries with him to game, as his spells don’t require a wand or any other materials he carries on his person regularly.

MOONBLESSING: Cordis.
